Saudarkrokur

When the buzz of an exciting, new Icelandic port called Saudarkrokur began to surface in late 2018, it soon became apparent that this relatively unknown Icelandic cruise port was definitely one to watch!

Well placed on Iceland’s north coast and in the shelter of the Skagafjordur fjord, Saudarkrokur currently offers one berthing space alongside for cruise vessels up to 200 metres in length, along with two additional anchorages – one 0,5 nm away and the other 0,8 nm away.
Worth noting is that an additional floating tender pier is planned for March 2020 in readiness of the port’s first operational cruise season.

The port is equipped with WiFi and washroom facilities and is 15 minutes walking distance from the Old Town with its museums and quaint streets.
Worth a mention is the ‘Verslun Haraldur Júlíussonar’ - a wonderful, time-traveller style General Store on Adalgata that has been in business since 1919 and where the gas is still pumped by hand.

  1.  Glaumbaer Historic Turf Farm

Glaumbaer is one of Iceland's most beautifully preserved turf farmhouses. Step back in time to the 18th and 19th centuries and experience what life was like in Icelandic farms in a bygone age.
  2.  Drangey Island

Drangey island is sheer sided and approximately 180 m high with wonderful views over the fjord. Bird life on the island is diverse, with the most predominant varieties being puffins and guillemots.
  3.  White Water River Rafting

The rivers feeding Skagafjörður provide the best river-rafting in Iceland. All levels are on offer. The Austari Jökulsá is ranked the more difficult, while the Vestari Jökulsá is classed as easier.
  4.  Horse Riding

Skagafjörður is without doubt the home of the Icelandic horse. There are a number of operators in the area offering horse riding tours of various lengths for every level of expertise.
